Grange Blitzes in Biarritz
South Aussie boatie crews are up there with the worlds best!  Three Grange crews competed in Biarritz in September 2008, in the European Surf Rowers Federation Open and Ocean Thunder Europe. With a nasty shore break and big powerful dumpers, a number of crew were out of action early, with boats nose diving on the sand as they came in.

Grange's Open Women's crew, the Geckos, won their way through to the final, battling their way through not only the 3 foot choppy waves, but the 6 foot tall (and 4 foot across the shoulders) girls from Wellington NZ, a crew of expat Aussies living OS and 4 Olympic rowers just back from Beijing.  The Grange girls did a fantastic job, winning the gold medal by about 8 boat lengths!     To add to the glory, Grange's masters crew also made the final and got the silver medal.

A big storm on the Saturday forced the second days racing to be cancelled but we they participated in a demo event for the 15 TV cameras that were there covering the event, which will be screened in November.
